steam radiator pipe banging

When the heat comes on the pipes in the basement start banging until the all radiators are receiving steam. The problem is that many times the farthest radiator from the furnace barely receives steam, so the banging continues until the heat goes off. This is in the master bedroom, of course. The steam valves are constantly blowing steam at the same time. What is the cause of this? And what can I do? Is it as simple as replacing the steam valves?
