stain brick instead of paint?

I have some exposed bricks on my fireplace that I want to "spruce up." I really don't want to paint. I was wondering if I could use a wood stain or varnish to deepen/tint the color? I have looked all over the internet for advice, but maybe I am searching for the wrong thing. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: stain brick instead of paint?

You need to check into a masonary stain, like what they have for concrete, Check quickete they should have something for it, the other thing is the type of brick you have will play into being able to take a stain. You could also check into Cultured Stone you would mortar these to the brick, I have done a few fireplaces with them. Good luck
