Spots, spots, thousands of spots!

I am trying to strip old wallpaper and paint from our Victorian parlor. That's going slowly but is going. My problem is the woodwork. It was not covered when the wallpaper was painted many years ago and we ended up with:

It there an easier method for cleaning these up rather than by scraping by hand?

Finest steel wool and naphtha or xylol, but you will have to wax it (paste wax) to get rid of the resulting haze. The wax and steel wool alone may do the trick, since wax has a paint thinner-like solvent in it. Watch for splinters.

I guess I'll get some Johnson's Paste Wax and my 000/0000 wool and give it a try.
