sparking black and decker cordless drill

I bought a cordless tool kit made by Black and Decker. It includes a 24 volt cordless drill and a 24 volt cordless circular saw and a power pack or whatever you call it.

After charging up the power pack, I tried out the drill. You can see sparks inside the "barrel" of the drill. I called customer service and they said as long as the sparks were inside the tool, it was safe.

Should I believe them, or am I going to perish in a fiery blaze?

Don't worry . You'll live to drill another day . :)

Re: sparking black and decker cordless drill

The sparking is pretty much a normal thing. It's most likely coming from the motor's brushes as the commutator in the motor turns.

Nearly all 'brush-type' or 'universal' motors do this.

Thanks, feel v. reassured.

As soon as it stops raining, I can go fix my leaky gutters.

Sandrarenolds , you should be ok. The spark is an indication the motor is working properly, as long as it is inside the body and sparks only when in use... Good idea .. wait til the rains stop... you must live in the midwest region:)
