We've had a Slant Fin Lynx combi heating and domestic hot water since Feb. of 2011, and its been nothing but trouble. A couple years back, the company installed an completely new unit as per warrantee - due no doubt to the fact that the entire production line for that particular year was faulty. It would leave us without heat every so often. It STILL stops making hot water suddenly - often in mid-shower. Because we bought a system without a standby tank, (like conventional water heating,) the temperature plummets to stone cold in less than a minute. We've had it serviced several times by the installer, now once again it is acting up. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. It is obviously a work-in-progress with the consumer as Beta Testers. Run, don't walk from this thing.

I had the same problem with my Bobcat. Unfortunately most all the newer equipment with circuit boards are very critical of the electrical supply. But the issue is not voltage.

The problem is with the hertz. You need a full 60 hertz to get past the circuit board. Some of the older generators do not hit that. If the board does not read a full 60 cycles per second, it blocks the current. I bought a new generator and the problem ended. Had other customers with older generator face the same problems with boilers , furnaces, and water heaters.

I just installed the Bobcat B 120 this last fall and I have had only one issue. During a recent power outage, I started my gas powered generator. At first the Bobcat worked fine on the generator power, but after awhile it started switching the circulator pumps on and off in about 2 second intervals. I determined that my generator's output voltage tends to rise after it warms up and the Bobcat control board fails when the supply voltage is somewhere around 125 to 128 VAC. Everything else in my house (TV’s, computers etc.) works fine in that range. I called the company and was told that the board was "very sensitive" and they had no recommendations on how to deal with the problem. I have ordered an AC voltage regulator which should solve the problem. Other then that the boiler has functioned extremely well and my heating bills are noticeably lower.

We have installed 12 condensing boilers, both foreign and domestic, over the last 10 years. They all work great. None of them are Slant Fin; a company known for their fin-tube radiation and cast iron boilers.

It is up to the local distributor and installing contractor to recommend, install and service the best equipment he can find.
