silicone caulk on wood windows

Hi. Does anyone know how to remove silicone caulk off of unpainted wood windows? I would like to stain my wood windows however the silicone caulk is unstainable and needs to be removed.
Is there a chemical remover that I can use that will not damage the wood? Thank you

Re: silicone caulk on wood windows

As far as I know there is not a chemical that will remove the silicone. I have had to scrape it off using a utility knife and single edge razor blade, sand the area and fill any gouges or holes with a good wood filler that will accept the stain.
