Shower Tile Floor Squishing

A section of the floor in the shower, which has 2" x 2" tiles, feels like they have "fallen" & when you walk on it, the tiles squish & I can see air bubbles.

What kind of issue does it sound like I have?? Any info will be GREATLY appreciated.

Based on your description the news isn't good.
Sounds as though you have a problem of water has gotten in under the shower floor tiles and has likely ruined the substrate ..... worst case is the shower floor needs to be taken up , repair the substrate and lay new tiles.

Just a thought

worst case? i think that might be best case. you should just hope that there's not any damage to anything below the shower floor pan. but again, that's what shower floor pans are there to protect from so let's hope for the best.
