Shower base

I am going to put in a new shower base and drain. I will be putting title over the new base. I would like to have a 4'' rise to the bottom of the shower door. My questionis what will I use to build a base ?

Welcome to the forum.

Is this over a slab? Over wood framing?

What waterproofing method are you using for the pan? The walls?

You'll find all the information you need, including an extensive library you can browse over at the John Bridge Tile Forum.

The Schluter shower kit is an easy system and performs very well -- check it out http://www.schluter.com/5302.aspx

Re: Shower base

Can this shower base be used with hardiboard and tiled walls?

Re: Shower base

Schluter, the manufacturer of Kerdi, prefers the kerdi be applied over regular old white plain drywall as a substrate for the walls and niche. The shower base can be either a drypack single layer or their foam base. Both of those methods use the integrated Kerdi Drain Kit. The curb can be a Kerdi foam curb or a number of other methods depending on the substrate.

I don't believe Schulter * prefer * their product "be applied over regular old white plain drywall as a substrate for the walls and niche." --- rather it * can * be.
Besides -- no AHJ that I know allow regular old white plain drywall within a shower space.--- so it would seem to be a moot point anyway.

Their products can absoluely be applied over cement backer boards.

Re: Shower base

White drywall is the preferred substrate for Kerdi by Schluter, surprisingly even for steam showers, which I find quite odd. Yes it can be applied over CBU.

I have been to several of their multi day seminars and am quite sure of the information. The TCNA recently changed the guidelines for substrates for surface membranes as well.

Interesting.
The product seminar I attended the rep clearly stated their product was so good Kerdi *can * be applied over regular drywall without fear of leaking causing mould and mildew issues on that substrate -- didn't say it was the * preferred * substrate for their product.

Just saying.
