We are installing a new dishwasher in our kitchen. Our old dishwasher used an air gap. Do we really need to use an air gap with our new one? We are unsure of the purpose of it. The new dishwasher instructions provide optional air gap directions, so it appears we can do away with it.
In addition, we do not have a garbage disposal. We plan to get new countertops in a few weeks and the counters would look alot nicer without that air gap cap on top.
