Sewer line problem?

Hi, all,

I'm in my first year in my first house. I noticed the other day a bit of dampness around the sewer cap (drain?) in my basement. I don't know if I'm being clear, but I'm talking about where the new pvc piping meets the old cast iron drain that leads outside. There was a good bit of dust - it's an unfinished basement and a lot of it was swept up into the same corner - that was moist and had an ammonia smell. We swept up, cleaned it with bleach, etc. We'll be keeping an eye on it to see if it gets any worse or keeps happening.

Here's the conundrum ... We have two cats, and we just moved the litter boxes to the basement. I'm guessing this is just a problem with the felines, but I thought I'd see if this might be a leak since I'd like to catch that early or prepare myself to did deep into my pockets.

Thanks for any and all advice!
