Sealing Granite Counters

We had new granite counters installed last year and were told that they need to be re-sealed yearly. Can anyone recommend products/techniques to re-seal?
Thanks

Re: Sealing Granite Counters

The answer depends on what type of granite you have. Absolute Black doesn't require any sealant for example as it is so dense.

Do a simple test first: Dampen a sponge to the point it doesn't drip. Place it on the granite for 20 minutes. Remove the sponge and look to see how much water has penetrated the granite. If you have penetration, you'll need a sealant. My first choice for hard, less porous granites is Bulletproof by Dupont or SST. Its water based and works excellently.
