scratches in glass

I just finished the old wood door to my 100+ year old house. I was so proud because I soon noticed I scratched the glass when I sanded the old finish off. I tried the toothpaste trick but that did not work. Is there any way to repair them? I hope so, it is beautiful glass.

You are stuck with them.
Lesson learned.

You could try polishing with 400 or 600 or 800 grit sandpaper, but you run the risk of making it worse.

Glass can be polished- there are kits for this. But it takes a lot of time, and the glass has to be o8u7t for the discs to reach the edges, and the results are iffy unless you're experieced. Just replace it.

I'll tell you what I would do if these scratches bothered me: replace the glass.

I have a lot of similar experience with my replacement windows and doors with fiber glass finishes. Scratches can ruin the look of a glass piece. You can attempt a repair by using polish applied with a jeweler's cloth. This will need to be washed off from time to time, and reapplied.
Or you can get help from this post: http://home.howstuffworks.com/home-improvement/repair/how-to-remove-scratches-from-glass.htm

What kind of glass? If it's old window glass search craigslist or the dumpsters of nearby rehab projects for free 100+ year old windows. I've done both to replace broken panes.
