Rusting all-metal garage (PHOTOS)

I've just purchased my first home, and I have a WW2-era all metal garage on a concrete pad; metal clapboard-style siding over a metal frame. The metal siding and even some of the support pieces are fairly extensively rusted around most of the base of the garage. The garage feels very solid, but I'm wondering what the best way is to stop the corrosion. Do I need to sand/grind, paint with a rustproof paint, and install some sort of flashing?

By the way, the maple trees have been removed since these photos were taken. Some of them I was able to yank out by the roots, but the others are now 1' stumps that I'm having a hell of a time getting out. Six weeks into home ownership, the novelty of doing yard work has officially worn off!

I also have some masonry patching to do, as you can see in the last photo.

I almost forgot, I don't have a photo, but the roof is corrugated metal and has some surface rust as well. Any recommendations on what to paint it with?

Thanks!
