Running NM next to cast iron drain

Any violations if i run 14/2 and 12/2 nm to my second floor from the basement by folowing up next to the existing cast iron drain from the bathroom? Im just thinking does it need to be a different kind of wire or is this just plain and simple not allowed?

I am not sure, but I would try to route the wire elsewhere. Not that I'm worried about water leaks, it's just a gut feeling.

Let's see what our friendly semi retired electrician say about the code.

Also, you can run any kind of wire, depending on what you will use it for and your preference.

No it doesn't have to be a different type of cable and I know of no code violation against using the same wall cavity as the drain.

There should be no issues with running NM up that chase --- it's commonly done when electricians do retrofit or re-wiring .

Ditto, not a Code thing...but as I recall that area is usually pretty nasty. Maybe UF might be a better choice.
