Rose of Sharon cuttings - when to plant?

I successfully rooted a few cuttings from a mature Rose of Sharon. They've been in pots for 2 seasons, since I'm leery of putting them out where squirrels, groundhogs and pests like cutworms and Rhodo borers can get them. Should I just leave them in the pots out on the deck, 'til spring? Or plant them now (we're in zone 5) and let them acclimate to winter?

I also have some smaller seedlings of RoS, Red-bud and Dogwood, that I got from the Arbor Day foundation. They look so puny! Should they stay inside this winter?
