Roofing nails, hammer or nail gun?
Keith

I see a lot of roofing companies claiming that hand nailing is better than a nail gun for roofing.  I watched a video on htis but the guy doing the video was comparing a shingle he just hammered down with nails an inch apart to old shingles that were being torn off that had been done with a nail gun.  The old shingles were brittle and the nails spaced the normal distance apart.

I see the contractors on TOH use nail guns and the show always tries to use best practices.  Is hand nailing shingles really better?

Keith,

Again, it depends. There are way too many variables to say either one would be best. I like hand nailing so that one can "feel" the way the shingle is laying and the nail is being driven in.

Keith,

I believe the more important factors is to use the highest quality materials that one can find.
