Roof Insulation- under shingles

Well, I'm going to need a new roof next year and I was wondering about insulation under shingles. I have some 1/16 foam (soft-roll able insulation) that I bought for another project-it was supposed to be used under laminate floors and I'm wondering if it would help or be applicable for eliminating heat transfer from roof to interior. Any ideas?

Re: Roof Insulation- under shingles

The exterior of the roof deck is concerned with shedding rain & snow, obtaining a watertight seal & providing a tight adhesion & long life for the shingles; thus, the only thing that is installed under the shingles is building paper (tar paper), & 3 to 6 ft. of synthetic rubber snow & ice shield at the lower part of the roof in cold weather climates.

You might compromise the holding power of the roofing nails by using insulation.

Leave the insulation for the UNDERSIDE of the roof (in the attic) if you choose to install insulation.
