Replacing radiator

I have a 60 yr old row home that has a cast iron radiator in the basement. Is there a more modern way I can go? How can I remove the radiator so I can fur out the wall behind the radiator? What pre cautions do I need to know about?

Re: Replacing radiator

Please post back to advise if this is a radiator for a forced hot water system or a steam system.

The type of alternatives available would be directly dependent on which type of heat you have.

Also list the square footage of the room (length X width) and if there are any other rads in the room, and the total square footage of all the windows in the room.

Also list the dimensions of the radiator (length, height, diameter) so its heat output can be calculated.
