replacing faucet set

I'm trying to replace a lavatory faucet set with a set that has handles that my wife, who has Parkinson's disease, can more easily use. The problem I have is that I cannot remove the existing set because the wingnuts have apparently been glued to the counter top, and using a basin wrench has only succeeded in breaking off the little tabs on the wingnuts. I have tried to drill out the wingnuts, but the space is so tight than I cannot position the drill to reach all parts of the wingnuts. I really don't want to destroy the whole countertop and molded-in sink to replace only the faucet set. HELP!!

Re: replacing faucet set

If they are the plastic wing nuts, you might try heating them with a hair dryer or heat gun. If you soften them up you can sometimes hook them and pull them off.
