My customer complained that he was getting drafts from the edges of his windows. I found that the exterior of the windows was sealed to the brick with the old putty we used to use in put glass panes into old style windows (at a 45 degree angle).
I am able to cut out the old, cracked putty, however it is a very oily material and I am unable to completely remove the old from the brick. Everywhere I see advise to avoid putting exterior silicon caulking onto an oily surface.
Any experience on how to handle this? Am I worrying too much?
