Replace old walpaper with drywall

My 100 old house has cheese cloth and walpaper. I need to replace his with something. What ever i use is going to add with to my wall. How do compensate at the door and window facings to prevent a gap when i replace the facings ?

Re: Replace old walpaper with drywall

There are several ways to accomplish the task;

1- Traditionally 1/4" drywall is applied directly over whatever you have now. Easier and cheaper.

2- Pull down the ship lap below the wallpaper, insulate, fix the electrical and plumbing, add modern communication wires, then shim the studs 1/4" and add 1/2" drywall. Far more work but a superior end product.
