Replace missing board in Hardwood Floor

I have original hardwood floors in my 60's era condo. Unfortunately, when the floors were installed, the builder neglected to add a sub-floor. Recently, someone stepped through one of the planks. Does anyone know how to repair this correctly?

Generally speaking, to remove a damaged plank if your floor is on joists, you need to cut it to the nearest joists on both sides of the damage (the cuts should be in the center of the joists).
Then extract the damage piece without damaging the neighboring planks.
Cut new piece to fit, and attach with glue and finished nails to the joists, drive the nails below the surface and putty over the nail holes.

As you can imagine, this job is not for beginners.

I have seen this done on TOH. There may be a video on the site.

I have a similar situation. (A former owner replaced a damaged section of hardwood flooring with bare plywood - ACK!) I am going to have a handyman take care of the repair / replacement. If you can repair it yourself, more power to ya.
