Removing paint from wood panelling

The finished basement in my new 1946 Ranch home has wood panelling that has been painted over!! What are the chances that I can restore the wood to close to it's original glory?

Re: Removing paint from wood panelling

It will depend on what the panelling is like. Is it 1/4" stuff or is it tongue and groove, or something else that is made of substantial wood.

Anything but the 1/4" stuff may be worth the effort. A lot of effort...

You can use paint stripper on it and a little sanding afterwards to catch the spots you missed with the scraper. If it's the 1/4" stuff, just tear it off and start over or cover it up with drywall and start over.

Good Luck.
