Remove or install floating floor over?

Have 70's installed glue down carpet over 50's Formica over wood. Pier and beam foundation in good condition. Want to install new floor covering, have dogs, ranch so carpet NO! Wanted either ceramic or vinyl. Am on low budget, SS & small pension. Thought of floating floor to save on labor. The Formica is pocked and crumbling. Any good suggestions?

Re: Remove or install floating floor over?

You will likely have a huge expense in removing those existing floor coverings. Really would need more details for more input, choose a reputable contractor and look at as many options as possible.

Re: Remove or install floating floor over?

Also should have mentioned the possiblity of asbestos. Removing old floor can bring that issue up.

Have you looked at cork an option?
