remove acrylic paint

I have an old (1940s or 50s) music box that has been painted over with acrylic. Underneath the acrylic is a very nice painted decorative scene coated in varnish or clear enamel. What is the best way to remove the acrylic without damaging what's under it?

send it to someone or a company that restores old furniture or artwork. do NOT try to do it yourself.

Just curious: how do you know what's under the top coat?

This was a music box my parents had when I was a kid. Somewhere along the way my mother decided to decorate it.

I tried this: soak the metal in acetone, such as Cutex nail polish remover. Nail paint is acrylic based, hence why it dries so fast. Rub off with a small piece of gauge steel wool. Repeat the process if required.

There are so many paint removal available on the stores but it is not easy to tell which is best fit for you.
