On this week's Ask TOH, Kevin showed an electronic device that straps onto the glass globe of the Electric kWh Meter. It has a sensor which tracks the rate of the spinning wheel and sends a signal to a handheld device with a digital readout. The screen displays a constant real-time reading of power usage/cost. He said that the device was $135.00
Hey, that's great but no clues as to where the device can be obtained or what it's called. I'm sure it has some catchy name for marketing purposes.
Google searches for "remote meter reading", etc. are useless.
Does anyone know the name of the device, the model, or better yet, the manufacturer's name?
Here in Illinois, ComEd is offering real-time pricing for homeowners. It's supposed to be the first residential program of it's kind in the country. You get a new meter that tracks your kWh usage per hour. The price per kWh changes hourly and therefore throughout the day you can use your power accordingly. Great savings $$ are possible. I thought the remote meter reading device discussed on Ask TOH would be a handy tool to use in conjunction with the new program from ComEd.
