Relocating an electrical outlet

I need to relocate an electrical outlet about 6 inches on a bathroom wall.
How do I do this?

Left, on the other side of the wall stud.

The simplest way to do this is to first shut off the power, then take the wires out of the box and rip the box out. The next step would be to drill a hole to the other bay and cut out an old workbox where you need it. If the wires are long enough, fish them to the new spot and put the old work box in the wall and secure it. Then you can patch the old area. If the wires are not long enough, run a new wire from the spot where the outlet use to be and then secure the old work box in the new location and the previous. The pervious location will now be a junction box that should be blanked off.

Also if you have access to the wires from either above the ceiling or below the floor, you could take the wires out of the box that way, and make a junction box either in the attic or the basement and fish the wire to the new spot. The one thing you don't want to do is put a junction box behind a wall where you have no access.
