Relocate return air vent in open concept floorplan

I am working on removing a kitchen wall in my 1960 house with a forced air heating/cooling system.

The return air vent for the floor is located in this wall that will be removed.

My question is where should I relocate the return air vent?

I believe there is two options:
- In the floor
- In the kitchen island cabinet kick panel

With this wall removed, there isn't any other interior walls availble to install a return air vent.

I am looking for recommendations.

Thanks,

Darren

I wouldn't think to recommend the toe kick since the return vent should be the same volume ( square inch ) as the original..... maintaining the CFM for balance.
Typically the toe kicks are 3-4 inches high ... this will require the return to be only a couple of inches high but considerable inches wide..... likely requiring custom sheet metal work for the vent transistion.

If the only other location is the floor then you might try locating it toward a wall .... at least it would be more out of the way.

Just a thought. :)
