Refinishing Richlite Countertops

We have Richlite countertops in our kitchen that are about four years old and are showing the scatches and scrapes accumulated over the past several years. The mfr recommends sanding them with a red Scotchbrite pad.

My question is has anyone had any experience with sanding and refinishing these type of countertops? And what about sealing them afterwards? The mfr makes a sealer but I've also heard that Butcher's wax works. We've used mineral oil to minimize the appearance on the scatches but it only goes so far.
