Reassembling Old Fireplace Mantle

I recently purchased a 1902 Craftsman and the original fireplace Mantle was disassembled by the previous owners who say they had removed it because they planned on stripping it and bringing back the original finish. As you can see they never finished the project.
I currently just want to get the Mantle reassembled and placed back on the wall but have no clue on how to actually do so the correct way.
Are the fittings and mantle top nailed in place somehow?
I never plan on using this fireplace so I'm not worried about future fire hazards.

Re: Reassembling Old Fireplace Mantle

Any ideas?

Re: Reassembling Old Fireplace Mantle

Let's assume you have all the parts of this fireplace, which I doubt.

Do you really want it there? Why don't you continue what the previous owner had in mind and remove the fireplace altogether?

I would.

Re: Reassembling Old Fireplace Mantle

This is the only fireplace in the house and I would like to keep it so I can later have gas logs installed. All of the mantle pieces are there but I just don't know how to attach them to the walls.
