I would like to add a pump to an old cistern near my home for watering my wife's flower beds and gardens. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Any advice is appreciated.
Try finding an old shallow well pump, probably from your local plumber. Finding an old hand cistern pump might be very, very hard. I remember, growing up, before water systems were installed, having a cistern pump right in our bathroom, for washing hands. All the rain water from the roof ran into a cistern under the house, and the hand pump brought the water to the sink.
You could rig up an old pressure tank outdoors, along with the shallow well pump, and have water available, just by turning on the faucet.
Just a thought, on this cold morning in Minnesota.
