Prep work to paint porch railings

We need help with the best way to remove the chipping, peeling paint from turned porch railing so we can repair and repaint them.

paint scra-per and sand paper.....not a fun job but somebody has to do it

plus, if you question was geared towards....there's got to be an easier way.....there isn't

Yes this is an unpleasant job. The one tool which makes it easiest is a telephone. Call a painter.

A handy palm sander can ease your pain. Stock up on sand paper.

All I can add is if that you think it's taking too much effort to do paint prep well so that you skimp on it, you're not going to like having to do it all over again in a few years. Make it easy on yourself and prep and prime one section or area at a time so it doesn't seem so overwhelming, and do the very best you possibly can. After that you should need little prep afterward.

The best paint in the world is no good with poor prepwork, but with good prepwork even a half-decent paint will give good results. In painting it's what you can't see that makes it last!
