Porch decking for late 1800's house

Our home was built in the late 1800's...it is white with a wrap around front porch (covered) We are in the process of replacing the decking on the porch. Currently the decking is painted wood. I am considering ipe or other brazilian wood which will not be painted but will be a dark wood. This will give the house a little more modern look, but I am concerned that it will look "out of place". The painted decking will certainly be in keeping with the character of the house, but will need maintenance. The ipe will of course need little maintenance (but is more expensive) Any suggestions or thoughts?

You have to decide on your priority. Durability and natural or painted. One of the more weather resistant woods like ipe will be fine, painted or just sealed. You'll want something that's sort of durable since you'll be walking on it. Not redwood. Good weatherproof wood but too soft.

Good Luck.
