plywood-only under new tin ceiling?

I'm replacing the tin ceiling in my kitchen and will be putting up a plywood base for nailing. I'm also removing the old dryrock which was underneath the old tin because it had some moisture damage (upstairs bathroom-fixed) and had been poorly installed. Will the plywood sub-ceiling be sufficient or do I need to put up new dryrock, too?

Re: plywood-only under new tin ceiling?

Drywall would help a little with sound deadening but bother than that there is no reason to install it that I can see.

Re: plywood-only under new tin ceiling?

Thanks! I'm probably going to go ahead with the drywall, anyway. After I pulled off all the old stuff I discovered a few more challenges for a few new threads:rolleyes:
