Pipe repair

How does one repair a leaking pipe which is under a concrete side walk without breaking out the concrete? The side walk is butted up against a building so only one side is accessible and the pipe is a feeder line into the building.

Any advise would be appreciated.

You have two choices. You can breakup the sidewalk or reroute the line around the sidewalk. Bringing the main into the building at a location were you can connect to the existing water lines in the building.

3rd option; tunneling.

You can see why the sidewalk is usually the first casualty

The only trouble with this, Houston, is that when you tunnel under the sidewalk you end up in the footing/foundation.

It's easier to abandon this line, reroute it to an easier location, like John said.

Or cut the sidewalk to facilitate pipe replacement. Concrete is relatively inexpensive, just cut out a section, do the repair, and replace the concrete. Problem solved in the most cost effective manner.

Yes I know, that would be my choice. I've done it so many times.

But the guest said he didn't want to mess with the sidewalk.

The guest should rethink his ways. ;):p:D
