pilot light ?

should a pilot light be turned off in a heating system (boiler)hot water, baseboard or left on all year? thank you

Re: pilot light ?

This would depend on what else is connected to the boiler---if, as usual, the boiler is used to supply domestic hot tap water during the summer, the boiler has to remain on.

Could you post back to advise if you have a separate hot water heater, or if you use the boiler to supply your domestic hot water during the summer.

Re: pilot light ?

If they are separate then by all means you can turn it off. You may be adding 1% on your boiler efficiency, if it has a standing pilot (assume so or else you wouldn't be turning it off). Just remember to reignite it next season before calling NashuaTech with a no heat service call.

And if you have a gas fired fireplace, turn that pilot light off too!
