Earthworm mounds are barely an inch high and loosely formed, with no hole in the center. The small piles of red clay are objectionable to perfectionist lawn owners but will be washed away by the next rain or irrigation.

It is exactly what I have but I'll keep open mind until I dig up the area and identify the suspects......

They're all over here, just dig 7 inches deep then ...viola.....worms....
