Pebble tiles for shower base

We are in the planning stages remodeling our master bath and looking for any feedback from someone who has installed pebble tiles in shower bottom. specifically....what type of maintenance is needed if any? how are they on your feet and do they get slippery? any comments at all would be appreciated.

thank you!:cool:

Re: Pebble tiles for shower base

It depends on what type of pebbles - those with more rounded tops of those that are flat tiles.

Rounded pebbles;

1- require a slope of 1/2" per foot instead of the normal 1/4" per foot for drainage.
2- You'll still get an amount of puddling between the stones due to;
3- grouting the stones greatly reduces the visible part of each stone. Do a test board to see if you are happy with the outcome. Choose between how deep the grout is (how much stone is exposed) and how much water gets trapped between the stones
4- to some people are a great idea for a short while until their feet hurt too much
5- are the hot item now and will look dated soon

Consider getting a pebble mat for the shower which you can remove for easy cleaning and throw away when you get tired of it. www dot pebble mat dot com can get you a mat for $40

Flat pebbles are no problem and have a nice look without the puddling and grout issues.
