Painting Deck

Is it ok to use an oil base primer and cover it with latex paint?

Re: Painting Deck

In my opinion I wouldn't use paint on a deck. I don't think it handles the wear and tear of foot traffic.

You're right. I am using opaque stain from Cabot. They recommend using their oil base primer under their 1800 series stain, but a painter in my area says you can't use oil base primer under latex.

No, it won't work. You'll have to strip everything off and do it again if you do. The two aren't meant to work together. Keep like items together.

Yes, you can put latex over oil base, but never oil base over latex.I also would not use paint on a deck, you will regret it in a couple of years. I use a product called WoodRX, Is"s a deck sealer that comes in 3 colors.Ive been building docks all my life, take my advise. No I mean docks over the water,it"s the same.
