Paint Storage

I have partial 1 gallon cans of paint that I save for touch up or new projects. Some of the cans have rusted around the top. I have some large plastic jugs (HDPE from protein powder) and am wondering if I will harm the paint if I pour it in the plastic jugs.

Re: Paint Storage

Plastic will not harm paint, most paint cans today are plastic with a metal lid. What is important is a good tight seal to keep air out, also, the less air space within the container, the better it is for the paint.

Re: Paint Storage

The better the seal, the longer it lasts, BUT...

Plastic can't get as good a seal as the original paint-can (when first filled that is!)

The BEST way is to get those glass canning-jars that have the lid with the rubber-gasket, and the separate tightening band.
ZERO air can get in this way!
(that's why they're sold for food-safety!)

This is the IDEAL.
Choose a size that's closest to the actual paint-volume left over.

The whole key here....

Re: Paint Storage

This was really great information given by you, well according to my point of view, I think that, Paint storage cabinets for 1-gallon paint cans are available in 20, 40, 60 and up to 120-gallon capacities.
