paint kitchen counter tops

I would like to paint my kitchen counter tops with a solid color. Can this be simply done with no sanding?

What are your counter tops made from now ? Condition?

what your counterops are made of will dictate how well the paint sticks to them. but regardless of what they're made of, it's not something i would do. i would be shocked if you didn't have scratches and peeling paint within days or weeks of being completed.

if you want to change the color or your countertops very inexpensively why not just put a layer of formica over them. a decent durable surface that will last, be easy to clean and not look terrible after a week.

RustOleum sells a tintable paint specifically for laminate counter tops. It is available at Home Depot.

mostly they are made from plain alluminium and some mixture of asbestos sheets

What exactly is made of these things? Is it a new recipe for spam?

@ ordjen:

Have you used this and how does it hold up? I've never refinished countertops with anything but food-grade epoxy. With the proper prepwork it lasts several years or more so long as some idiot doesn't think it's a cutting board! A cheaper less-odorous coating would be a better choice if ti worked well.

If your counter tops are already smooth there's no need for you to sand them, you can paint them directly

not true at all. sanding will help the paint adhere to the surface, if it's too smooth the paint might peel easily.

But if the poster didn't get that post in the poster would nit have been able to post a link in another post advertising a retailer, and that was the real motivation. Bad advice doesn't matter, spamming does.

Re: paint kitchen counter tops

lots of people cut onto worktops this will destroy your paint job.

It might look a bit wierd but have you thought of painting the worksurface and then adding a glass worktop ontop?

That might work but as with all things will be expensive.
