Outdoor frost proof faucet sprays into the house when nozzle is turned on
scott_matson

I have a Woodford Model 22 hot/cold frost proof faucet in my garage.  This spring, when I went to turn the faucet on in the garage, almost no water was coming out of the hose but I could still hear water running.  I turned the faucet off and went downstairs to see that my basement was flooding with water from the ceiling where the faucet connections came into the house.

I'm pretty sure that the pex pipes aren't broken, because the water valve on the inside was turned on all winter and there were no leaks.  The only time there is a problem is when the faucet gets turned on in the garage.  What can I do to fix this?  Do I need to completely replace the faucet?  Or is there something I can do to repair it?

It froze and split the body of the faucet, you will need to replace it.

I had something like this happen to me one winter in Colorado.  I made the mistake of leaving an outdoor hose connected.  The pipe feeding the faucet ran along the basement ceiling.  It turned out that the pipe had split along its top near the faucet.  This split was not visible when looking up at the pipe from below, but I could feel it when wrapping my hand around the pipe.  I needed to get that pipe and/or faucet replaced.
