organic gardening, praying mantis habitat

I am expanding my garden this year and plan on using praying mantis to control most of the insects, and milky spores to control japaneese beetles. The praying mantis eggs are easily ordered through the mail, but they require a sheltered area for the mantis to live and lay eggs. What can be put allong side the garden to keep these preditors happily feeding on garden insects? I was thinking about Hydrangea. Are these dog friendly?

Thank you for posting a reply. Yes I had red the article that you posted a link for. The article is geared for making an indoor habitat for a Mantis, like for a kid's science fair project. It will not witstand rain, or be a habitat for the mantis to lay it's eggs in before winter.
