Old house / New Tile

My home is built 1925 the bath tile is laid in cement. Does any one know why I cant just rough up the tile and install new tile over it.

Re: Old house / New Tile

I have the exact same problem. If you find the answer, let me know.

Re: Old house / New Tile

The Tile Councils Handbook says it can be done over structurally sound tile. They recommend the tile be scarified and thoroughly cleaned. A modified thin-set mortar should probably be used. check with the manufacturer.
You also have to consider how the base will be handled. If their is a cove, how will the new base cover it and connect to the wall.
