Old cans & new insulation

We're finishing a basement that has 20 Halo lights installed from 20+ years ago. They're exposed right now, as the ceiling was never finished.

We are planning on rock wool insulation; will the gaps in the insulation around the cans affect it's noise reducing property? Or should I replace the cans with zero clearance ones? Would it be worth the cost?

first check to see what the safe distance the insulation has to be from the cans. i assume they are not insulation rated.

i would use Roxul sound deadening insulation in the bays. you won't cut all the noise but it will make a dramatic diference even with the area around the cans not being insulated.
