Old brick, what to do?
Matt

Hi all,

So I bought a century home (1910).  The brick is in bad shape.  Some step cracking in spots and it seems to be falling apart in other areas.  The step cracking can be fixed (and prevented with some new lintels) and we plan on getting that done soon.  But there are other areas where I’m not sure if repair is an option.  When I first saw the house I imagined I would get it the brick stained (permatint) but having a closer look at the damage I am not sure if that’s a good option. Also would permatint prevent further damage? Other options I have considered are stucco over the whole thing, Or siding.  Ultimately I want the healthiest option for the brick to prevent further damage. And there seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions out there, so I figured I would ask the experts.

Thanks!
