Old aluminum screens

We have an old farmhouse with many windows. The older windows have old aluminum frame screens. Some of the screens have the tabs broken off that slide the screen in the track (the ones at the top of the screen frame). We are trying to repair them or locate someone who does this.

Those little tabs break off easily and there are a dozen different tabs depending on the manufacturer - some of them out of business. Some old style hardware stores have these in stock but the best bet is to find businesss that specializes in windows only and they will have an excellent stock of these tabs as well as other replacement parts. You will usually have to go to a major metropolitan area to find a major window business. We do business with an outfit called Western Window in Ohio. It is on an obscure street with a counter only operation. That is where you will find your window place in your area.

Without spending time and gas looking in stores, go on line and you are more likely to be lucky to find what you need.

I've found the rarest items on line to repair various items, sitting at my desk.

You might try Angie'slist.com for a knowledgeable contractor if you have trouble finding parts.
