I have not had my chimney cleaned in over 15 years. I recently called a chimney sweep (certified chimney co.) to clean the oil flue. The tech (not the owner) arrived, cleaned out the connecter from the furnace to the flue while inside the house. That means he vacuumed. Then he climbed the roof, made a quick inspection and told me the flue did not need cleaning. However, I was still charged the full price for a cleaning and in fact that is what he wrote on the invoice. Does it seem posssible that after more than 15 years the oil flue would not need to be cleaned? And should I have been charged for a flue cleaning? I can understand being charged for an inspection and cleaning the connector/stack with the vacuum, but I paid for a full cleaning and did not get one. Thank you for your advice.
