Re: oil burner efficient

Hi Pomer,

There are numerous efficient boilers at various styles & price ranges available, so it's hard to recommend one particular boiler.

I wasn't able to determine from reading your past posts if you indeed have a boiler for a forced hot water system, or actually had a furnace for forced hot air-----could you clarify this???

Also wonder if you have natural gas available, or just oil or propane.

Any installer you happen to contact in your area will carry several brands/models---widely popular ones that have a good reputation include Buderus, Crown, Dunkirk, Peerless, Hydrotherm, Slant/Fin, Utica, Viessmann, Biasi, Weil-McLain, Triangle Tube, and others.

This is further broken down into standard "entry level" low-cost cast iron units of approx. 83% efficiency, then up to 87% 3-pass boilers, then up to 95% AFUE condensing boilers that are the most expensive---standard warranty is usually 2 years on parts and 20 on the heat exchanger, but check the particular brand/model you're offered to shoot for the best warranty you can find.

The standard recommendation is to get as many quotes as you can, preferably 5 or 6 quotes from different installers in your area from oil dealers and "heating contractors" (Yellow Pages)---the installer's choice of equipment and installation price quotes will vary considerably---so you'll save $$$ if you get a lot of quotes.

Google "boilers product list""energy star" to get a list of high efficiency boilers on the market.

Please post back with requested info.
