Odd wall under countertop

hello,

im about ready to start out bathroom remodel on our house. Built 1970. It has the vintage style with no vanity but a large 108” in total countertop. We want to put 2 regular vanity’s in in place of the large countertop. My issue is underneath the countertop there is a wall that comes out 1” from

tge regular wall that the mirror is on. This wall

is where plumbing comes out. I have attached a picture. With this wall there, there is no way a vanitywill

sit flush against the wall on the back. My question is, what is this wall? The tile only goes to

it and if I removed this section I’d be missing 1.5” of tile and floor. Was this common is vintage built homes??
